Dark bay gelding, 2015, Mission Impazible–Majestic Risk, by More Than Ready (NY)
BIOGRAPHY: Nucks is a 9-year-old New York-bred. He was bred by Dutchess Views Farm and was donated by his owner, Manhattan Racing Stable, in 2019 after a non-competitive racing career that saw him go 0-for-12 with $12,013 in earnings while competing mostly at the Finger Lakes. He was retired sound and has become a successful barrel racer.
Meg Hems of Auburn, NY, adopted Nucks shortly after he retired from the track and entered him in the 2020 Retired Racehorse Project. In 2021 at the Mega Makeover, Nucks and Meg placed 2nd in Freestyle and 3rd in Barrels, and they have only improved since. Nucks also received the Best Conditioned horse in the 2021 Barrels division and the TCA award for highest-placed adopted horse! Fast forward to 2024 and, at their most recent event in Syracuse at the NBHA Supershow, they had their best times in the Barrels ever, placing 14th and 5th in the 2D (the second highest division in barrel racing competition) out of 450 horses.
WHY NUCKS DESERVES YOUR VOTE: Nucks is the epitome of a Thoroughbred with the heart and desire to please. Besides competing in barrels, Nucks has worked security at rock concerts, can take care of young riders, and is happy to do whatever is asked of him.
